What to Wear for Your Session.
“What should I wear?” is one of the most common questions we get before a session, and it’s also one of the easiest things to overthink. The good news is you don’t need a brand new wardrobe or a Pinterest board with fifty pins. You just need a few simple guidelines.
Start with colour palettes instead of exact matching. If everyone in your group is wearing the same shade of navy, the photos can start to feel a little flat. Instead, pick two or three complementary colors and let each person wear a different piece within that range. Soft neutrals, muted tones, and earthy colors tend to photograph beautifully against Niagara’s natural backdrops, whether that’s the escarpment trails, the vineyards, or a quiet downtown street in St. Catharines.
Pattern mixing can work too, as long as you keep it balanced. If one person is in a bold pattern, keep everyone else in solids so the eye has a place to rest.
Comfort matters more than people expect. If your shoes are pinching or your collar is too tight, it shows up in your face before it shows up anywhere else. Bring a backup outfit if you’re between two options, and don’t be afraid to ask us directly. We’ve seen lots of combinations and we’re always happy to weigh in before the day of your shoot.
Think about the season and the light. Soft, breathable fabrics work well for golden hour sessions, while richer textures like wool or flannel photograph nicely in cooler months. Whatever you choose, the goal is for the outfit to feel like you, not like a costume.
